"I am a lifelong educator who has been tutoring for over half a decade, starting when I was in high school. With many successful clients ranging from special education middle school math to high school honors physics, I love to learn about my students and use that information to design a plan for them using evidence-based best practices in education. I have been a university biology lab and lecture teaching assistant for five semesters, as well as a manager / head TA for that lab where students performed real cancer and bacteria research. Furthermore, I am a consultant and former research assistant in education and instructional design.
I have helped design an entire college course, given guest lectures, hold office hours with high-turnout review sessions, and innately understand the education system as a whole. I want to become a teacher, and I would love to work with your student to put everything I have learned so far into practice. I hold a degree in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology so I understand math all the way through calculus, every major science (especially biology and chemistry), and have excellent verbal and oral communication skills due to my extensive background.
My methods are very simple: I start with learning about the student and their experience with school thus far to diagnose any deficiencies. Then, I create and implement a plan to remediate those deficiencies based on how the student learns. I use a mixture of direct instruction, interactive activities, practice problems, and more to help deliver the content. I then ensure understanding of that content through short progress checks before moving on. I use a variety of research-backed practices in everything I do. I approach every student with the mindset that they can learn anything, and help instill that mindset into the student to build their confidence as well. Then, we learn and succeed!" less...
