"My academic journey differs from the traditional "get good grades and get into a good school" standard. Failure is far from being a stranger to me. In fact, it has been a close friend who has shaped who I am as a person. I struggled tremendously before my college years, graduating high school late with a 1.67 GPA.
I took a break from school after graduation to think about what I would like to do with my life. Eventually, I fell in love with the physics. I (some would say foolishly) decided to pursue a degree in the subject despite my past struggles with education. I went into my degree promising myself that I would keep going no matter how difficult it became. I began at Orange Coast College (OCC), where I earned associates degrees in mathematics and physics with a GPA of 3.96.
I first began tutoring at OCC's Student Success Center, where I fell in love with tutoring and continued working there for two years before transferring to UC Berkeley in the Fall of 2024 to pursue my bachelors degree in physics. As part of my work as a tutor at OCC, I completed a certification in tutoring skills and strategies. I have tutored students, with ages ranging from late teens to middle age, on subjects ranging from elementary math to multivariate and vector calculus. I have experience tutoring students at every level of ability. My training and experience includes strategies for tutoring students with physical and mental disabilities. Additionally, I have over a year of large group, classroom style, tutoring experience.
My journey in college has been a true test of grit and determination, which I believe are the two most important qualities a student can have. The way in which I tutor students reflects my experience with academic struggle. I understand what it's like to feel like material is beyond my grasp and, more importantly, how to learn and grow as a result. I strongly believe in the ability for everyone to learn difficult material. My core tenets as a tutor are patience, empathy, and compassion." less...
