"I'm Fadumo! I currently teach 3rd/4th grade math. I graduated with a master's degree in Elementary Education from DePaul University. In college, I realized the classes I appreciated most weren't necessarily the topics I was most interested in. Rather, it was the professors who made the classes enjoyable. These professors were always engaging and comprehensible when teaching the material in the classroom. and willing to go the extra mile when I asked for additional help or clarification. I try to bring this knowledge to my tutoring approach, and do everything I can to make learning a pleasant experience. I use lesson plans in which I usually introduce the topic in a fun and creative way, then explicitly teach the material. Afterwards I always ensure time for students to practice the material on their own. Of course, this method can be adjusted based on the subject and student's individual needs.
Over the years, I've worked with students aged 3 to 16 in various roles such as mentor, tutor, and teacher. I worked directly with any students who needed additional assistance, but also had a small focus group of 3-5 students in each of my classes. These were the students who needed the most extra help, so I worked with them during class to make sure they didn't fall behind. Additionally, I held tutoring sessions everyday after school where students could come for any homework help. In this setting I tutored not only in math, but also reading, writing, and science.
I want to benefit the students I work with as much as possible, therefore welcome any resources or suggestions students or parents can provide. I am easy to reach and will always provide fast responses. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions and to schedule a lesson!" less...
