"Hi! My name is Jill. I am an experienced English as a Second Language and Spanish tutor, ready to help you with whatever aspects of these languages you need in order to be successful in these subjects. I am patient, enthusiastic, and tailor each session to the unique needs of the student. I also work extensively on proofreading and English composition skills.

Foreign languages are what made school interesting for me! After learning French, German, and Spanish, I lived, studied, and worked in Spain for several years before coming to California, where I later gained a degree in Spanish here, graduating first in my class. I have taught Spanish at the high school level, and also to children and to adults at all levels from beginner to advanced. My teaching certification is in Modern Languages (Spanish) and ESL. I continue to keep my Spanish skills sharp, which is essential I think, by taking classes in Spanish, and by visiting Spanish-speaking countries. The many Hispanic cultures are fascinating to me, and the language and literature rich and beautiful. I love teaching grammar and pronunciation, so I hope I can also make the subject interesting for the student.

My English language teacher-training started in London, UK. I taught ESL in Spain, where I became fluent in Spanish, and in Bristol, UK, and now in California. I have taught ESL at all levels for many years, mostly in private language schools, with small classes of adults. I have also taught children from age 4. I can help you with pronunciation problems, and help improve skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

I have enjoyed working with students who were preparing for university entrance or professional examinations, such as TOEFL, IELTS, and Eiken Tests (Japan). Even after my students moved on to universities, some of them continued to send me their essays, and even their dissertations, for editing! I also teach English in the Workplace and with Skype, where Business English is the focus.
