"Hi, I'm Sophie! I have a bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature with a minor in Film from Vassar College, a prestigious liberal arts school in upstate New York. I'm a people person and I believe learning, whether it's in a classroom or with a tutor, should be fun! I pride myself on being patient and encouraging--no matter how hard an assignment seems, with time and hard work we can master it together. I'm most experienced with homework and after school help, but am happy to assign additional exercises if needed.

I've always loved working with young people. When I was in high school, I assisted in the after-school program, where I helped elementary school students with homework in all subjects. In college, I worked for a local after-school tutor to help her clients with Spanish homework. The subjects I plan to tutor on Wyzant's platform are English (reading comprehension, writing, grammar, and essay help) and Spanish (vocabulary, conversation, and grammar).

As a writer and voracious reader, I love helping students make their essays as engaging as possible. As mentioned above, I studied English language and literature at Vassar College, where I focused on literary critique and creative writing. Simply put, I love words. I believe every student has a unique voice, and writing assignments allow that voice to be heard. I encourage students to utilize critical thinking and creativity alongside excellent grammar. In my current work as an assistant in the entertainment industry, proofreading for grammar and clarity is one of my biggest day-to-day responsibilities.

I studied abroad in Madrid and lived with an entirely Spanish speaking host family. I enjoy memorization and like to help students employ easy to remember tricks to become more comfortable with the language. I always found mnemonic devices to be a fun and easy way to remember Spanish rules and vocabulary.
