"I'm Jovanna. I have a bachelor's in Materials Science and Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. I've always been taken with chemistry, and I've been lucky to have wonderful teachers and professors throughout my high school and college experience. Therefore, I have had A's in chemistry. I’ve also made the Dean’s List multiple times. I have also taken CETL 2001 which is a tutoring course that Georgia Tech provides to train their tutors in effective tutoring techniques based on educational research which includes assessing student needs, asking proper clarification questions, and working with neurodiverse students. I have used these strategies for a year now in tutoring my students and have been successful in increasing their understanding in Chemistry.

I have worked as a PLUS (peer-led undergraduate study) tutor and a tutor on Knack. I have the Kornerstone Badge which indicates over 15 hours of tutoring on the platform. My main method for problem solving is to ask a student about what concepts and equations come to mind when they read a problem to determine any gaps in their knowledge as that is often the source of a lot of misunderstandings. From there I observe how they approach and solve problems and help with any confusion. I have a year of experience tutoring college students in both a group and individual setting, and students have worked with me in-person and virtually. I tutor consistently in my spare time, and I helped students not only with Chemistry, but also Physics I and II and Intro to Materials Science.
