"Hello, I'm Deontae H. and I have graduated with a degree in Statistics and am interested in being a math tutor. As a student at Michigan State University, I often attended the Math & Stats Help Room so I could explain how I approached problems and of course to see if those approaches were right or wrong. After attending the help room, I would then hang out with fellow classmates and if they needed help, I would be able to explain the solution to them in layman's terms. I have taken classes from Intermediate Algebra up to Differential Equations in my math coursework and from Introduction to Stats up to Capstone in Statistics, so I would say I specialize in mathematics/statistics.
The way I like to approach tutoring is to at ask questions to a student to see where they are falling short. I then like to break it down in layman's terms, be it rather in a real world, logical way or by showing them examples of the same type of problem and illustrate to them the theme of the topic. For example, I tutored someone a couple of weeks ago on probabilities dealing with normal distributions and I had to ask her what each inequality symbol represented, and then I had her draw the bell shaped curve & had her tell me shade in the region the question asked about. I like to tutor people by either meeting up with them in person or helping them over Zoom. After the tutoring sessions, I like to check up on them to see how they do in their respective courses. I often charge for tutoring sessions, though.
My main objective as a tutor is to get students away from rote learning. I say that because I was once a rote learner, and being able to remember formulas mean nothing if you don't know how to use them. I am available all weekend and after 5pm during the weekdays." less...
