"Hello! My name is Sonia and I LOVE tutoring and working with students of all ages! I attended Virginia Commonwealth University where I double-majored in Biology and Environmental Studies. I also minored in Chemistry and am passionate about helping students in math and sciences. I struggled quite a bit in these subjects myself in high school, but ended up loving them so much that I switched majors and am now a first-year Medical Student! I'm here to share what I have learned over the years with my students.

My main focus is building student confidence through an encouraging and accepting approach. Not understanding this concept one way? We'll try another! It's all about finding the right fit for the student's learning style. I make sure to build foundational basics and cover gaps in knowledge before moving on to the next topic. Beyond content, I cover a "tool box" of problem-solving/study skills students can draw upon to independently work through problems. This increases how much they believe in themselves!

I have been working as a tutor for five years and have experience working with K-12 students. I also worked at VCU's Campus Learning Center as a Supplemental Instruction Leader, designing interactive study sessions for students. Here, I was promoted to our senior team for excellent facilitation skills and activity design.
