"I am an active grandmother who presently co-teaches 1st -3rd graders at church and sometimes participates in grandchildren's (ages 9 and 12) home school coop activities. Before raising my family, I worked as a Speech Therapist working one on one or in small groups with elementary school children in the Mason Schools near Cincinnati, OH. After that, my tutoring has mostly been with my own children and grandchildren. My teaching experiences have been in various Sunday School classes.
I especially enjoy helping children one on one, working at their own pace. I love to help them overcome obstacles to gain confidence in themselves and improve their self esteem. I believe that God has given each child special gifts. I would be able to encourage and hopefully make a positive difference in a child's life during the tutoring process.
I was always an excellent student in grade school in English grammar. When some children were bored, I loved English grammar and diagramming sentences! I attended one of the top schools in the Cincinnati area, so had lots of homework all the time. I also understand the frustration of reading slowly and trying to comprehend in reading.
Not only was I a good student in elementary school, but I loved learning all subjects. Spelling came easy for me, and I enjoyed leaning to spell.
I learned phonetics as part of my speech therapy curriculum in college. I am becoming more familiar with phonics as I help my youngest grandson with his reading readiness skills. I feel that utilizing phonics as well as sight words makes learning to read easier.
I would love to have a chance to tutor you in a subject with which you need help or that you find frustrating. I will do my best to help this be a positive and encouraging experience for you. Sometimes it helps to have someone other than your parents help you. Maybe they have time challenges or get too frustrated themselves. Parents, please feel free to contact me to set up tutoring time or to ask me questions. Thank you!" less...
