"Learning to read was very difficult for me and I can identify with students who struggle with it. That is one reason I wanted to become a teacher, to help students learn to read. Working with struggling readers and spellers is my passion and have 36 years experience in education working with students of all ages (K-High School).

I have completed 100 hours of coursework training as an Academic Language Therapist. This training utilized the Situation Learning Alphabetic Phonics program developed in the Language Laboratory at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. I have over 300 hours working with dyslexic students and struggling readers using this program.

My tutoring sessions begin with the assessment of the student's skills in alphabet knowledge, decoding, spelling, handwriting, fluency, reading level, and comprehension. Tutoring sessions are then planned using an explicit, systematic, structured, multisensory approach to learning to read.

I believe that all children can learn to read. However, not all children learn at the same rate or in the same way.
