"I was a teacher for over 16 years and specialized in Cross Categorical Special Education, History, GED, HSED, Basic Skills, Reading, Political Science, Social Studies, and Geography. I worked with a group of young women who were often victims of trauma and were many years behind their same-aged peers. I loved seeing growth and improvement in my students. I worked with girls who read far below grade level and was able to help them succeed in getting their HSED or high school diploma.
I have been actively tutoring since 2012 and absolutely love connecting with students and watching them improve their executive functioning, reading, writing, and overall knowledge! I am skilled in learning how to leverage student strengths and interests to improve the areas where they struggle. I have helped students stay on track with homework and due dates, learn and improve their study skills, improve their test-taking, reading, writing, and other academic skills. I have also tutored students so they are able to pass their GED , ASVAB, and ACT tests!
One of my strengths as a teacher is the ability to develop positive relationships with my students and help them become motivated to achieve academic success. I believe in working with students as individuals and challenging them to go as far as they are capable.
I have very strong basic math skills, and am able to not only teach the mechanics of how something is solved, but why it is that way as well.
I have a personal love of history and politics and over 40 college credits in history and political science. I helped my son work through AP US History. He scored a 4 on the exam. I have since worked with at least one student each year succeed in APUSH.
I also have great English, Reading, and Grammar skills. I am effective in helping students prepare for standardized tests such as the ACT in the areas of English and Reading.
I simply enjoy working with and helping all ages from elementary level to adult!" less...
