"Hi, I'm Tim. I have a B.A. and M.A. in mathematics from Boston University

and many graduate credit hours from Oklahoma State University. I have taught and

tutored at both of those institutions and also at Pima Community College in

Tucson, AZ and at Northern Oklahoma College in Stillwater, OK. All in all, I have

over 30 years of experience teaching and tutoring mathematics.

I love tutoring because it is one of the most effective ways of helping students

learn difficult topics. Many students go to a lecture and feel like they've

understood the material presented only to start their homework and get stuck. My

approach is to help guide the student's thinking by asking them questions designed to

help them think through the process. If a student can understand the reasoning behind

a particular method or problem, they usually can remember it much more easily.

My goal in this kind of session is to get the student to a point at which they can

start doing the assignment on their own. Of course, some students need to learn

the material from scratch, and I can certainly go into teacher mode and present the

material. I also have resources to provide practice problems and examples

because I have experience teaching and tutoring many subjects including Intermediate

Algebra, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear

Algebra, Discrete Math, Analysis and Abstract Algebra.
