"I am a social worker with over 20 years' experience working with children. I have enjoyed tutoring in both the home setting and the after school classroom. Regardless of the subject, I find the most effective way to achieve positive results is to first determine what type of learner a child is, whether visual or auditory. Based on experience I have learned some students learn better when information is presented to them visually and some learn better when things can be explained thoroughly.

Another important tool I have found to be effective is relating the subject to everyday life. More often, students are able to connect with a topic if they can associate it with their tangible lives. A very good way to get a student interested in a subject is show them the relevance it has on their present and future. Another fun tactic I have used is putting things in song.
