"Hello Parents and Potential Students,

I thoroughly enjoy working with pre-K, primary, middle school and high school students, as well as college students and adults to support their studies. In addition to tutoring in the Washington, D.C. area, I worked as a tutor in Silicon Valley, CA for Kaplan, and as a private tutor for many years. Three years ago, I returned to Montgomery County, Maryland, where I grew up. Here I have enjoyed working with students of all ages on Wyzant's platform!

My tutoring expertise is augmented by my background as a news journalist. I was a staff member at The Wall Street Journal, Forbes magazine, and Bloomberg Business News. I worked as a reporter, editor and manager. I wrote about a wide range of subjects. These included business, medicine, biology, the environment, legal issues, Wall Street, and other topics that are related to subjects taught in grammar school, middle school and high school.

Not surprisingly, my exam prep sessions have focused on the elements necessary to successfully write and analyze essays - reading, grammar, vocabulary, punctuation - as well as how to take the test successfully. I also tutor students in "soft" subjects such as history, government, social studies, public speaking and biology. On the whole, I've found that learning is largely a matter of communication. It's not that a student can't understand and master the material, rather, they just haven't "heard" the information presented in a way that they can digest.
