"I’ve been an English teacher and academic tutor for more than twenty years. I hold a Master’s degree in Literature from Brown University and a Master of Education (M.Ed.) from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. I’m a certified English teacher for grades 5–12 in the state of Maine and also hold certification in Adult Education, which has given me the chance to work with a wide range of learners — from middle school students discovering their voice as writers to graduate students refining advanced academic skills.
In addition to my classroom experience, I’ve spent many years tutoring one-on-one, often meeting students in their local libraries. Some of my students have been managing mental health challenges while trying to stay on top of demanding coursework. My goal in those sessions is to make learning a calm, confidence-building experience — one that helps students feel capable and in control of their progress.
My Adult Education background has also allowed me to work with high school, college and graduate students, helping them strengthen their academic writing, research, and professional communication skills.
My tutoring style is personalized and collaborative. I start by getting to know my students — their goals, strengths, challenges, and learning preferences. From there, I design sessions that fit their pace and personality. I believe in teaching strategies that students can use long after our sessions end: how to organize ideas, approach assignments strategically, and think critically about their own work.
Most importantly, I aim to make every session positive and motivating. I want students to feel supported, challenged, and proud of their growth." less...
