"Hi! My name is Mary and I am excited to support chemistry and physical science learning. I have a Bachelor's, M.S., and Ph.D. in Chemistry and have a passion for chemistry education. For both my Master's and Ph.D., I conducted research in chemistry education to learn more about effective chemistry teaching strategies.

While most of my experience relates to college level chemistry courses, I am familiar with the AP Chemistry curriculum as well. When I was in high school, I was given the option of taking the "regular" chemistry class or the accelerated chemistry class. I told my advisor I should just take the regular because I had heard from siblings and older friends how hard chemistry was. I am grateful that this advisor pushed me to take the accelerated course. If I had let myself be intimidated by the course before even taking it, I wouldn't have realized that I could have success in the accelerated course, which led me to take AP Chemistry, major in chemistry, and pursue graduate degrees in chemistry. None of this would have been possible if I hadn't had someone in my corner to encourage me.

As a tutor, I hope to serve as that person in students' lives. In college and graduate school, I worked as a Supplemental Instructor, holding group tutoring sessions for chemistry students. In addition, I have tutored students in a one-to-one setting. I also worked as a teaching assistant during graduate school for a wide range of chemistry courses, ranging from introductory chemistry to organic chemistry (both lab and lecture). My tutoring focus is to help you gain confidence in chemistry by gaining fundamental knowledge and skills. I care deeply about helping you make sustainable progress while truly learning chemistry content - not just getting a desired grade, but actually understanding the material.

Chemistry can be an intimidating subject, but I hope to help you practice skills so that you can have success in your chemistry course or standardized test!" less...
