"I'm Tyler! I am a published researcher with degrees in Philosophy (minor in Ancient Greek), Religion, and Historical Theology. Throughout my collegiate experience, my favorite professors were those who had a passion for their subject and an ability clearly explain difficult concepts. I learned that understanding *why* something works and *how* to begin solving new problems is vital for success in the university environment. I also learned that writing does not have to be a scary thing.
For the past 4 years I have both formally and informally tutored and instructed college aged students in writing and rhetoric for courses related to history, philosophy, and religion. I try to bring all my past experiences into my tutoring and to make learning an enjoyable and enriching experience. I always bring a lesson outline to a tutoring session, during which I explicitly teach on a topic and ask questions along the way. Afterwards I leave time for students to ask questions related to the topic, practice the material, and help them with more specific problems they may have. I focus on 1:1 sessions, but have also led group review sessions as a Teaching Assistant.
In addition to informal tutoring experience, I have been a course instructor for the past two years and have extensive experience working closely with college students to improve their writing. I am especially skilled at helping students learn how to craft essays, analyze material critically, and produce well-written prose. I not only help students find success in their coursework, but I have also successfully coached students in applying for scholarships and grants as well. My tutoring expertise includes test prep subjects like the GRE or the SAT writing exams, but also extends to English/Comparative Literature, Philosophy, and Rhetoric/Writing courses.
Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have. I am very quick to respond and value open communication and feedback. I look forward to helping you improve your writing!" less...
