"Hi, I'm Amy! I'm a physics PhD from the College of William and Mary in Virginia and have spent years working as an experimental particle physicist. My undergraduate Bachelors degree from SUNY Geneseo is in physics with a minor in mathematics. I am experienced in a wide variety of mathematics and physics topics, with both classroom experience and real life practical applications of the subjects.
Helping students learn how to approach and work through challenging problems is a passion of mine. I have two years of classroom experience teaching undergraduate level physics and astronomy courses, as well as one on one tutoring experience in both physics and mathematics for undergraduates and high school students. My specialties are in high school physics, algebra, and calculus as well as college level introductory physics, calculus, quantum mechanics, classical mechanics.
When tutoring students I like to make sure to focus on teaching students to figure not just how to solve a given problem, but how to approach the problems. One of the core skills you can achieve in math and science is not just learning a given algorithm for solving a certain type of issue, but developing robust strategies of problem solving that can be applied in a wide variety of situations. Once students have an idea of where to start when approaching unfamiliar types of problems, it becomes much easier to teach specific ways to solve a given problem." less...
