"I have a Bachelor’s degree from Spring Arbor University with a major in Biochemistry and a minor in Math. I received my PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School with a concentration in Biochemistry.

As a former faculty member at a primarily undergraduate institution, I taught pre-med and pre-PA college students for nine years. I taught the following courses and their corresponding labs: general biology, biochemistry, molecular/cell biology, mechanisms of human diseases, genetics, and various seminar courses. I led tutoring groups for the above courses as well.

I was also responsible for one-on-one instruction during office hours. During these one-on-one sessions, the student and I determined the best type of instruction method to ensure the best comprehension. Typically, the best method included an explanation of the concept and follow-up questions to determine the student’s understanding. One of our goals was to learn and practice critical thinking.

I also led MCAT preparation sessions. During these sessions, students and I would work through practice questions and common concepts found in practice material. We would also review common chemistry, biology, and critical thinking/problem solving techniques.

As a senior research scientist for two years and a post-doctoral fellow for three years I have spent numerous hours working one-on-one with undergraduate and graduate students in a laboratory setting. I teach students the basics of biochemistry and molecular biology in the context of research. I use a similar method as described above where I explain the concept and ask questions to assess learning.

I enjoy explaining concepts to others, especially in the biological sciences and am looking forward to future tutoring prospects. Please reach out if you are interested!" less...
