"Hello!

I love researching and solving problems in a variety of fields. Tutoring allows me to fulfill this passion! I have 4 years experience tutoring students of all ages, from 7th grade to adult. I have a diverse background, with a PhD in Computer Science and over 25 years experience as a software developer. My coding languages in order of use C++, Java, Python, C and Assembler. Platforms: MATLAB, Libraries: CGAL. In addition, I have a BA in Psychology from UCLA, thus a soft/social sciences side. My software work and academic studies have kept me up to date on all subjects I've tutored previously. I enjoy helping others feel confident that they can tackle any problem on their own.

I tutored at a junior college for 2 years while getting my first Masters (Public Administration). The subjects I tutored included pre-algebra, algebra1, algebra2, introduction to statistics and writing. I was a visiting lecturer for 1 year within the Computer Science(CS)Department at Boston College(BC). I developed a 3 week crash course in Java which I taught and tutored followed by 4 weeks of Data Structures. I also taught and tutored simulation, logic and modeling in Excel to Boston College management students. I later tutored algebra and an 8 week programming basics course in Java to a pre-7th grader. I've taught a few students on Wyzant how to debug their code. Knowing how to use the debugger as a computer programmer / coder is crucial.

My approach begins with going over the student's problem, covering relevant concepts and/or algorithms. I break larger problems into smaller, simpler pieces. When appropriate: I encourage the student to define/record known values, unknown variables and write out algorithms. I'll draw to visualize / get better intuition of the problem. I encourage the student to sanity check the results of solutions. My goal is for students to feel confident solving any problem on their own.

I ask that students send me relevant materials 24 hours in advance, ensuring an effective session.
