"Hi! I'm Ashley. I graduated with my Bachelors in Psychology and minor in Speech Communication from UNR in 2010. During my time earning my BA, I realized my primary interest within psychology at the time was clinical psychology. After I graduated from UNR, I attended Teachers College, Columbia University and earned my Masters in Clinical Psychology. I worked as a mental health technician and a therapist for a few years after this, before realizing that my passion was in the research area of psychology, not the practice of it. I then went back to school at UNR, where I am nearly finished with my PhD in Social Psychology. Throughout my years at Columbia and at UNR in the Interdisciplinary Social Psychology program, I have received a lot of formal education and training in research methods and statistics. My assistantship at UNR for the last 2 years has been working as the Data Analysis and Statistical Consultant for the university. I have worked with undergraduate students and graduate students, as well as university faculty, helping them plan their research methods and properly clean, analyze, and interpret their data. I have given over 100 consultations during the last couple of academic years. Before working as a consultant, I taught and TA'd introductory statistics courses for 3 years at UNR. As such, my top areas of specialty are in psychology, statistics, R code, research methods, writing, and editing.
My favorite part of helping students has been seeing the relief on their faces when they finally understand a concept or feel like a difficult process has been demystified for them. I am able to meet people where they are and break complex ideas down into smaller, more digestible pieces to help aid in the learning process. I love being able to help people and tutoring is a rewarding avenue for doing that." less...
