"I earned my B.S. in Physics from Illinois State University, with a minor in Mathematics. Afterward, I attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where I earned my M.S. in Physics, as well as another M.S. in Agronomy (studying the evolution of herbicide resistance in weeds). I then attended Penn State University, where I earned my Ph.D. in Physics.
After my Ph.D., I taught as a physics professor at Earlham College for one year, and then as a physics professor at Kansas Wesleyan University for five years. Besides physics, I have taught many math courses (from College Algebra through Discrete Math) and computer science courses (Introduction to Data Science, Introduction to Python Programming, and Advanced Python Programming).
My teaching style involves asking questions to figure out exactly where you're at in terms of understanding a concept, and then to use as many common-sense, real-life examples as needed to get you to where you want to be. I love teaching, and tutoring is my favorite way of teaching (as opposed to standing in front of a classroom), because I can tailor my methods to whatever will work best for the particular student I am helping.
I've primarily tutored college students, but also some high school students, but I'm open to teaching math, physics, and/or computer science subjects at any level. As a college professor, most of my teaching experience comes from a classroom setting, but, as I mentioned earlier, my preference is one-on-one tutoring. While working as a professor, I strongly encouraged students to attend my office hours for extra help, and I had some of the best-attended office hours on campus because of my passion for helping students succeed. I would love to help you too!" less...
