"Hello, I’m Michael, and I’m looking forward to helping you feel more confident in Physics and Mathematics! Skills in these subjects can lay a foundation for future careers and help us better understand the world.
I earned my PhD in Physics in 2012 from the University of Toulouse (France), and have traveled from France to Singapore, Germany, and the US doing research and teaching in multiple areas of physics. I have post-doctoral research experience in theoretical condensed matter physics, cold atom physics, and theoretical biophysics.
I have 5+ years of teaching experience at the University level and have taught several courses in a classroom setting such as:
• Undergraduate electromagnetism, including topics like electro/magneto-statics, Maxwell equations and wave propagation.
• Undergraduate quantum mechanics, covering the core axioms of quantum mechanics, concepts from linear algebra, simple systems as the quantum harmonic oscillator, and scattering theory.
• Graduate quantum optics, where we delved deeper into light-matter interactions and applications to quantum information and computation.
• Calculus-based introductory physics laboratories for biology students, illustrating physics concepts that underlie vision, radiation, and cell homeostasis.
I have experience in teaching, tutoring, and mentoring students from high-school to graduate school. My tutoring method helps students understand fundamental concepts through application by solving multiple examples, which I select from class-tested textbooks or design myself. I have extensive experience teaching courses online and use interactive methods with the virtual whiteboard.
I have completed a nine-week course “Scientists Teaching Science” which covered using principles of active learning, crafting effective student skill assessments, and developing engaging course objectives and materials.
My experience, methods, and interactive approach will help students master the material and reach their goals." less...
