"I'm a piano and music theory teacher with degrees in piano and music education. I studied at Wartburg College (Iowa), Azusa Pacific University (California) and the University of Iowa. During my graduate studies, I focused on piano performance and pedagogy and I have 20 years experience teaching piano students of all ages.

I have been teaching music fundamentals at the college level for 10 years and my focus in this area is helping students to understand how to read printed music. I use folk songs, popular music, and musical theatre as well as classical music to help students connect the written musical symbols to the sounds they hear. I also teach music theory courses and form and analysis. In these courses, I help students use their music reading skills and their keyboard skills to figure out how a piece is put together.

My students say my teaching is challenging and engaging. I prefer an interactive classroom over a lecture-based classroom. Tutoring can occur one-on-one or in small groups and in-person or over Zoom." less...
