"I am a professor of political science at Loyola University Chicago and Lake Forest College. I teach both American politics and international relations courses so I have a wide variety of political science and government material I can tutor. Courses I teach include Introduction to US Politics, Introduction to International Relations, Democracy and Democratization, and LGBTQ Politics. Additionally, I hold an MA in Women and Gender Studies, along with a BA with majors in Political Science, International Studies, and Spanish.
My teaching style in the classroom is similar to what I can bring to tutoring sessions which is a focus on meeting each student where they are at. The most important thing in education is making topics relatable, understandable, and having a variety of teaching styles since each student learns in unique ways. In my education philosophy deeper understanding of issues and problems will lead to greater academic performance and I strive to instill a sense of not only understand the "what" of political science, but also the "why" and "how".
In addition to my teaching experience and subject area knowledge I also have several years of other relevant hands-on experience that I can bring to tutoring sessions. In terms of US politics I have worked as a campaign manager for a member of the New Hampshire state House of Representatives and have several years working at a non-profit which included government advocacy on healthcare issues. This allows me to bring unique insights into electoral politics, lobbying, and state government and politics in addition to federal government. In terms of international experience I served two years in the Peace Corps in Botswana which brings unique international experience to any international relations issues regarding international aid, international organizations, and a focus on international politics beyond the typical balance of power concerns." less...
