"I have been teaching and tutoring since 2009. My primary focus as a tutor is to understand the students' knowledge and interest in the subject, and fill in the gaps with fundamental concepts related to the subject matter. Mathematics and Science are subjects that build, from one area of study to the next. Without a strong foundation, students will often struggle with advanced concepts. My goal as a teacher and tutor is to strengthen the students' foundational knowledge, and provide relatable examples and practice to ensure the student is able to recall and apply that fundamental knowledge. I utilize examples from nature, finance, and physics to teach many mathematical concepts, which I have found to be effective because they are relatable, accessible, and apply to everyday life.

In my approach, I begin with a preliminary assessment of the students' knowledge and struggles, to determine what their current understanding is and what gaps exist. This usually occurs during an initial discussion of current course lessons and assignments. Secondly, I work with the student to connect the coded concepts and formulas to the verbal and graphical representations. Throughout the process, the student is the center and focus in learning. I am able to adapt my approach to suit their needs and interests, in order to concentrate more on the desired student and course outcomes. Finally, I encourage and work with students to create learning goals, to ensure that their achievements are measurable, and realistic.
