"Hi, I'm Doug. I've been tutoring since 2001; it's been my primary occupation for 17 years total.

After six years at one of the big test prep companies (at which I rose as high as "Ubertrainer" — ask me), I've been on my own for more than a decade now. "Hi, I'm Doug. I've been tutoring since 2001; it's been my primary occupation for 17 years total.

After six years at one of the big test prep companies (at which I rose as high as "Ubertrainer" — ask me), I've been on my own for more than a decade now. Most of my tutoring work is for the LSAT, which isn't surprising as it's the first test I taught. I scored a 177 the first time I saw the test (and easy 180s since then) but that isn't nearly as important as most students think; what matters more is that over the years, working with hundreds of LSAT takers, I have learned what actually works, as opposed to. looking good on a whiteboard. As I also went to law school (UC Berkeley), I can put many of the problems into context along the way.

My second most-taught test is the MCAT, on which I have scored 525 (current version) and 43T (back in the olden days). Again, I know the difference between what looks good and what helps students score well. I can teach any of the MCAT subjects, though I'll admit that OChem isn't my strong suit.

GMAT, GRE, SAT — The techniques I've learned over the decades translate very well to these tests, too. (Of course I've gotten perfect GMAT and GRE scores; I did miss a question back when I took the SAT ;) )

My background, besides Law School, is a double major in math and economics (yeah, I'm a math guy). I've also held about a dozen "normal" jobs (assuming management consultant, census operations manager, and wildlife biologist constitute normalcy), but I always come back to teaching.

When I'm not tutoring I am a semi-professional bridge player (I teach that too, if you need it), a semi-retired birder, and a world traveler who has been to 86 countries now, and tutored from about 25 of them across seven continents.

Let's get you that score you need!" less...
