"Hi! I'm David. I'm currently enrolled in Miami Dade College pursuing a Bachelor's in Education - Secondary Mathematics. I have a 3.9 GPA and my SAT Math score was a 710. I have completed My FTCE-GKT certification and I am preparing for my professional/subject area certifications. I qualify for any Math subjects from general education to Algebra 1&2 and Geometry. My long-term goal is to become a high school math teacher.
Since 2020, I worked as an instructor at Mathnasium of Miami Lakes, a tutoring center that specializes in improving math skills for students of all ages. My work at Mathnasium involved taking in-depth strategies to improve math proficiency by finding struggle areas and missing concepts. By reinforcing those skills through practice and establishing numerical relationships, students would be able to demonstrate conceptual and procedural mastery. I also specialized in test prep; I provided EOC practice for highschool students and gave 1-on-1 tutoring for students taking the SAT/ACT. I switched to private tutoring to align better with my studies.
When tutoring students, my aim is to help students see that math is like any other skill; taking time to understand it will help anyone follow the road to mastery. While working on course material, I recognize that that students may struggle with the content for different reasons, and students may need different modes of learning to retain a given concept. From studying at MDC, to tutoring at Mathnasium, I am able to utilize a variety of teaching methods to ensure completion of course material and the retention necessary to apply those skills in the future.
Math is a foundational skill: what you learn now is based on what you learned in the past, and will be needed for skills taught in the future. Whether you want to catch up, or want to get ahead, the work is the same; by strengthening your foundations, and challenging you with higher-thinking, you can get the confidence you need to develop a deeper relationship with math." less...
