"Hi- I'm Diana. I offer cello lessons, Spanish tutoring, and music theory tutoring. Please read the category that you are most interested in to learn about my experience and approach.
CELLO: I am a classically trained cellist and have been teaching for the past 8 years. I have a Master’s degree and a Post Graduate Degree in Music Performance, with emphasis in cello. I have played with top orchestras like the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, and have played with musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma. When teaching, I strive to find the right balance between technique (which is key to improving), and other aspects of music such as musicality, historical context and performance practice. I have taught people of all ages and levels, and love sharing my passion for cello with each one of my students.
SPANISH: I was born and raised in Costa Rica and, as a native Speaker, I love to teach the language and share about the culture. I have been teaching Spanish for the past 3 years, and what I find most challenging is for the students to break free from the textbooks and engage in conversation. While it is necessary to understand the grammar, learn vocabulary, etc; my main goal is for the student to feel confident while conversing. That can look like creating simple sentences on your own, practicing how to use verbs in different settings, or having an entire conversation about a specific subject in Spanish. I strive to create an environment where each student feels safe, supported and motivated to keep improving and achieve their goals.
MUSIC THEORY: As a classically trained cellist, I have been studying music theory for more than 20 years. I have 8+ years of experience teaching music and cello, and have both a Master and Postgraduate degree in music performance. Are you looking to improve your music reading skills, ear training, or rhythm? Maybe all of the above? I can help with all that and more! Music can be so fun to learn. I am here to help you reach your musical goals, while having fun in the process!" less...
