"Hello There - I am a professional working visual artist and educator specializing in painting (watercolors, inks, acrylics, oils), drawing, and art history—including AP Art History and AP Studio Art (2D). I’ve taught students ages 12 to 100 in schools, museums, non-profits, and online. If you can hold a pencil, I can help you make art—no previous experience required! I can teach traditional methods as well as integrating abstraction. The direction you choose is up to you.
My teaching style is calm, relaxing, supportive, and layered with good humor. I believe art should be joyous, rewarding, and sometimes involves creative problem-solving. My goal is to help you feel comfortable, confident, and maybe even smile and laugh while you learn a lot about all kinds of 2-D media. Thanks for considering me as your creative guide.
I hold a BFA in Studio Art from St. Mary’s College of Notre Dame, an MA in Visual Art/Museum Studies from American University, advanced painting coursework from the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design at George Washington University, and teaching certification from the University of Virginia. I’ve helped many students build portfolios for art school applications—without losing their sanity. I do believe that it take two years for high school students to create a solid portfolio.
Since 2018, I’ve focused on teaching adults and have embraced online instruction, including national watercolor classes during the pandemic. I also offer critiques, coaching, and guidance for artists moving from hobbyist to professional, including advice for website creation and assisting with artist statements. Whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or dusting off your old easel, I’m here to make art accessible, enjoyable, and fun in a safe and supportive environment." less...
