I have a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in psychology but I have been tutoring students in various other subject areas for many years, including working as a writing tutor during my undergraduate collegiate experience and serving as a teaching assistant for several psychology classes during graduate school. I've also served as a mentor for both undergraduate and graduate students seeking college counseling. From those experiences, I know how important it is to have a tutor who is knowledgeable, reliable, and meets you where you are at. That's why I always like to gather information about my students' general level of knowledge in an area, their needs, and their timeline prior to starting tutoring sessions. At the beginning of each tutoring session, I work with my students to set an agenda so we can cover as many things as possible with our time. My tutoring style depends on each student and ranges from a lecture-based approach (for students who are relatively new to a particular area of study) to discussion-based (for students with more experience in an area or who learn best by practicing their skills and applying their knowledge).

I took and passed the GRE and EPPP exams with high scores, and I know that studying for standardized tests can be stressful and overwhelming. Ways I help students prepare for standardized exams include (but are not limited to) developing a study plan, discussing test strategies (including time management and stress reduction), and reviewing questions/answers.
