"I graduated from Vassar College with a BA in psychology and a minor in history. As a senior I created, implemented, analyzed, and wrote a psychology research thesis which was submitted and accepted into an academic conference. While my primary experience is with psychology and history, I also have significant knowledge in other subjects including math, philosophy, English, writing, cello, and soccer from both high school and college.
After graduating, I worked for two years at NYU and three years at the University of Michigan as a lab manager at two psychology research labs. In these positions, I aided in publishing several papers in well-respected academic journals. Through my years working in research, I have developed fast and reliable proofreading and editing skills. At my position at the University of Michigan, I also had the opportunity to assist in the creation and implementation of a district-wide curriculum for high school students teaching them about self-control and effective learning tools. I have integrated this scientific and researched based approach to learning into my own teaching techniques. While I already had experience teaching elementary, middle, and high school students as a cello teacher and a camp councilor, in these positions as a lab manager, I also had the opportunity to teach and mentor undergraduate students.
I am a tutor because of my own love for learning and academia. I hope to pass this love and enthusiasm on to my students. I believe that patience and understanding is the key to being a good teacher, and that it is most often frustration and fear that gets in the way of success rather than inability. I take a slow and steady approach to tutoring in order to ensure that students actually understand the material in addition to completing assignments. I also believe that different students learn in different ways and it is important to cater how teaching is done to each individual's learning style. This way, all students have the time and support and learn and excel." less...
