"I hold an R. EEG T. (Registered EEG Technologist) certification and a Bachelor's degree in Integrated Studies (Neuroscience, Health Science, Electroneurodiagnostics) from Weber State University. I also scored 90th percentile on the MCAT as a prospective medical student demonstrating an ability to succeed on standardized tests. I have 5 years of clinical experience in EEG, and another 2 years of college level teaching experience at the Utah Electroneurodiagnostic Institute.
I was not always a strong student, with a shaky start to my undergrad and even dropping out for a period of time. Since returning, I had to teach myself to learn and in that process became very passionate about teaching study skills to help others succeed as I did. I have taught in a variety of settings, from one-on-one tutoring EEG concepts, to group instruction in general chemistry. I have also provided classroom instruction and exam preparation for EEG technologists pursuing their. R. EEG T. certification. I take an active learning approach, making use of spaced repetition tools like Anki and incorporating as much practice as possible. I like active lectures encouraging student participation with a goal of supporting students through building their confidence, asking questions, and then reinforcing the concepts outside of the classroom with tools like Anki. This method was successful for me as a student, and in my experience has been very successful with the students that I have mentored.
Having been a student that has struggled in the past, I find that giving students the confidence and tools to learn is often more important than the content itself. I am hoping that with this platform I can connect with students struggling in the sciences, and I can introduce them to methods that might help them succeed and build confidence in their field." less...
