"Hello! My name is Ara, and I am a writing and social sciences tutor. I've studied history, literature, sociology, archaeology, and psychology through a gender theory lens. Although my study abroad experience at Oxford University inspired me to focus my research on medieval women in British history, I can help students develop essays about a multitude of subjects from all eras and regions. My Master's in Gender History (with honors) from the University of Glasgow provided me an abundance of tools for research and theory. I can help with guiding questions for research, keeping notes organized, writing an effective outline, and developing APA and MLA citations. I also have lots of experience with creative projects such as presentations, digital art, creative nonfiction, and theatre.
With over 2,000 hours of tutoring all ages and subjects in person and online, I understand how to adapt to the needs of each student. I spent one year tutoring three students at once and another year reading and writing detailed feedback on a complete essay draft in less than an hour, so I have practice quickly assessing students' needs and giving resources that will help students beyond the current project. I can help with all steps of the writing process and manage expectations for what we can accomplish together on our timeline. I believe that research and writing is a creative process, and it can be fun once you find an engaging aspect of your project.
I am available for online or in-person sessions most weekday evenings until late. I can help with specific questions or act as a guide through an entire project over several sessions. If possible, please provide instructions or guidance from your professor, any work you've completed so far, and questions or goals for the session before our scheduled meeting. Having this information early on allows me to prepare for a more effective lesson. I’m excited to work with you!" less...
