I'm a retired math teacher from Dekalb County, and teaching was a “second career" for me. Most of my adult professional life was in the corporate world as an engineer and later, as a manager... so I think I bring a good dose of real-world experience to the classroom.

Of special note... from 2013 to 2016, I lived and worked in Shanghai, China as the headmaster of a small, private international high school. It was a life changing experience. Our charter was to prepare Chinese high school students to attend US Universities... which included US Common Core subject curriculums integrated with intense English language coursework... as well as cultural familiarization with what they would encounter in America.

Over the years, I've taught several high school math courses (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, GPS Math1, Math2, Coordinate Algebra, Analytic Geometry) and have consistently helped my students score well on standardized tests. Science involves a lot of math, and as a degreed professional engineer, I have been regularly involved in using science in real-world situations. I've also enjoyed teaching AP Computer Science while in China.

I try to teach from a practical, rather than conceptual point of view. I find that this brings meaning to the theory and often... immediate understanding where there was none before.

Once a student comprehends WHY something is the way it is, memorization becomes a thing of the past and a deeper level of understanding can take root.
