"I have the following experiences in working with students in Mathematics, STEM, sports, and church over the past 50 years. I taught more than 40 days as a substitute Mathematics teacher in Prince Georges County Public Schools in grades 4-12 during 2011-2012 school year. I observed that many of the students showed amazement when they recognized that they could solve most of the Math problems if they received a little help. Similarly, over the past 50 years with NASA and in retirement many of my high school and college age students in Sunday school, or in one on one tutoring, or in internships in the workplace, showed positive excitement and appreciation when they grasped the materials and arrived at the correct solutions after overcoming their struggles. Similar experiences exist with my own 3 children and with 6 grandchildren in academics and in sports, where I coached boys and girls from grades 1-8 at the club and travel levels in baseball, basketball, and soccer.

My approach is to allow or to request that the students express the extent that they can relate to the problems to be solved from their personal knowledge or lessons by covered by teachers or from textbooks. Then I would provide additional information to build bridges leading from where the students are to the needed solutions. This approach has served me well in working with students at the elementary, secondary, college, and professional levels. Additionally, I have represented NASA at school and universities across the USA. I am confident that I possess the knowledge, skill set, and general experience to bring together my excellent grasp of Mathematics, the required learning materials, and the student(s) for the successful grasp of the lesson materials by the student(s). I have observed the amazement of students when "they get it".
