"I am an experienced educator of 46 years with a strong foundation in psychology, sociology, history, and student-centered teaching methods. I hold a Bachelor's/Master's degree in Secondary Education and Psychology, and have completed additional certifications in online teaching. My academic background supports a well-rounded, research-informed approach to teaching that emphasizes engagement, critical thinking, and adaptability to diverse learning styles. My favorite subjects include memory, exam preparation, learning, macroeconomic thinking, and perception.
Over the past 15 years, I have worked in both classroom and one-on-one settings, teaching students ranging in age from high school to adult learners. My primary experience has been at the community college level, where I’ve taught Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, and Macroeconomics. I’ve also worked as a tutor and mentor, offering personalized academic support and guidance tailored to individual needs.
My teaching style is rooted in a constructivist approach, encouraging active participation, metacognition, and a growth mindset. Whether in person or online, I strive to create an inclusive and supportive environment that fosters curiosity and confidence. I incorporate a variety of methods, including scaffolding, Socratic questioning, collaborative learning, and real-world application, to help students not only retain information but also make meaningful connections.
My experience includes formal classroom instruction, small group facilitation, and volunteer tutoring. I’ve worked with students from diverse backgrounds and with varying academic needs, including first-generation college students, adult learners returning to school, and students with learning differences. These experiences have deepened my commitment to equity in education and shaped my teaching philosophy." less...
