"I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Computational and Applied Mathematics from Rice University, where my coursework emphasized problem solving, mathematical modeling, and analytical thinking. My academic background includes extensive work in algebra, geometry, calculus, linear algebra, and applied mathematics, as well as experience using tools such as Python and MATLAB to approach complex problems. This foundation allows me to explain mathematical concepts clearly and to break down SAT and ACT math questions into logical, manageable steps that students can understand and apply independently.
For the past year and a half, I have been tutoring SAT and ACT students primarily in math through Huntington Learning Center, both in person and remotely. I work one-on-one with middle school and high school students, helping them build confidence, reduce careless errors, and develop reliable test-taking strategies. My approach focuses on guided problem solving, asking targeted questions to help students understand why an answer works rather than relying on memorization. Through individualized instruction and adaptive teaching methods, my students typically see score improvements of 150–200 points on the SAT. I also support other tutors by providing guidance on lesson structure and effective math explanations.
In addition to test preparation, I have several years of experience tutoring mathematics more broadly. I previously worked at Mathnasium teaching students ages 5 through college level in both virtual and in-person settings, and I served as a math tutor at a Houston high school where I supported classroom instruction and small-group learning. Across these roles, I have taught students with a wide range of abilities and learning styles. I continue tutoring because I genuinely enjoy helping students gain clarity and confidence in math, especially in high-stakes testing situations like the SAT and ACT." less...
