"Hello! My name is Meghan Lim and I recently graduated from Rice University. I started tutoring as a volunteer mentor in my high school chapter's National Honor Society, but I enjoyed it so much that I started this business to shape my own vision of what a tutoring model should be for students in my community. After six years, I have guided 50+ students to effectively reach their goals with a multitude of practice strategies and support methods. I strive to teach students of all ages with patience and encouragement in a creative, engaging manner.
As a young adult, I believe younger piano students love working with me, and I can better relate to and inform younger students in their high school classes and the competitive college process from my own recent experiences. My goal is to approach teaching with enthusiasm and to foster a positive mindset within my students. From my experience, self-limiting beliefs are one of the easiest, yet most imposing barriers to overcome to achieve success. Particularly among young students, I want to instill confidence that they are capable of overcoming challenges. "I can't" doesn't exist in my books.
I have a long history of teaching and helping others through community service and I specialize in teaching piano (beginner & intermediate) and standardized tests (SAT, PSAT, ASVAB). I am also comfortable preparing students for rigorous AP classes after taking 14 in high school. My SAT was 1510 and my ASVAB test was a 96, both in the 99th percentile. Piano has been a mainstay and I have loved playing it for 11 years now. I'm classically trained and have consistently won awards at state solo and concerto piano contests and competitions (TMTA, UIL, NFMC). Additionally, in 2018 I performed at the Winners' Recital at Carnegie Hall and earned 1st with Honors in the annual Sonatina and Sonata International Youth Piano Competition.
I am open to virtual or in-person arrangements to meet. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions and I am excited to meet you!" less...
