"I studied economics and international relations at UNC Chapel Hill with a focus on Eastern Europe, and in particular on Russian history and the Russian language. After two years of study of Russian, I studied for one semester in the Russian Federation - in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan. After graduating from UNC, I worked for two years as a Peace Corps TEFL Volunteer in a village in eastern Kyrgyzstan, where I collaborated with a local English teacher to instruct students and lead English clubs for both children and adults.

Following my return to the United States I began teaching ESL to Russian-speaking immigrants, mostly people from Ukraine and Central Asia, which I have been doing independently since 2021. I worked as a Russian language tutor for UNC for one year and assisted first- and second-year students in developing their reading comprehension, listening, speaking, and writing skills.

Over the past few years I have also been engaged in tutoring elementary, middle, and high school students in English as well as math, and recently assisted a student in achieving the highest score in her class on her 9th grade math EOC.

I always take care to ensure that I prepare engaging and relevant materials for use in tutoring sessions with clients, and seek to include fun and helpful games and activities where possible, and to tailor the sessions such that they fit my clients' needs and interests. I especially enjoy incorporating song lyrics and interesting dialogues into language lessons.

In addition to the above, I have years of experience as a map illustrator, and have led online and in-person lessons for children and adults in producing beautiful hand-drawn maps." less...
