"I currently teach college-level communication courses including Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, and Fundamentals of Communication. I have been teaching at the college level since 2009 with students ranging from dual enrolled high school students to returning students and everyone in between. I have also worked in tutoring for 4 years with a focus on SAT and ACT prep. I have also helped students with AP exams, math subjects such as algebra and geometry, high school reading comprehension, and executive functioning.
During my high school years, I struggled. Most of my teachers were perfunctory with their care, and I had to scramble just to graduate. In college. I started to develop better studying habits and learned the value in both learning and excelling in class. I went from barely graduating high school to graduating cum laude from Sacramento State University. I understand what it means to fall behind and have problems in school; I also understand that there is light up ahead, and sometimes we just need someone to help us along the way. My passion is for helping people learn and succeed.
My approach to tutoring is straightforward: I first meet with the client (and guardians if working with a minor) to assess how my skills and their needs align and develop a game plan to reach their goals. I then work with the client to reach those goals, helping them with both mastering the materials and fine-tuning their approach or strategy. I have seen SAT/ACT students improve their test scores across all subjects, nervous public speakers grow in both confidence and ability, and people struggling to move beyond literal reading comprehension come find insights in texts all on their own." less...
