"Hi, I’m Luis! I'm a Mechanical Engineering undergraduate specializing in Aerospace, with a minor in philosophy. I started tutoring because I love helping students grow their confidence and understanding in mathematics, science, and engineering. Coming from a low-income background, I understand firsthand how important academic success is for opening doors to college and future opportunities.
I've scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT Math Sections on three separate sittings. Throughout high school, I became an AP Capstone Diploma recipient and AP Scholar with Honors — strong scores in calculus, physics, chemistry, computer science, and English. In high school, I spent my summers at STEM camps, and weekdays leading my local middle school's Rocketry Program. I provided direct support to any student who required extra help, including smaller focus groups of 5–10 high-need students to ensure they stayed on pace.
Continuing my studies at Rice University, I've expanded my passion for teaching other students with professional development, including but not limited to leading on-campus professional career workshops, hosting resume reviews for +20 students, supervising my university's rocketry division with up to 30 students. Through these experiences I've done 2 engineering internships working with major aerospace companies.
I’m just excited to work with students who want encouraging guidance in their STEM coursework. I can also help out with test preparation, university applications, internship applications. A student deserves a professional tutor that is reliable, responsive, and grounded, offering sessions built on structure and shared progress. My goal is for every student to leave feeling more capable than when we began." less...
