I have a degree in Mathematics and a Master's of Education. I had 8 years of experience teaching in a classroom, which included 6 years of working in Catholic schools, student teaching at a public school, and covering a maternity leave at a school for students with language-based learning disabilities. I also have several years of tutoring experience, both with private tutoring and the learning center Mathnasium.
During my time teaching and tutoring, I acquired a specialization with getting students ready for the SAT. Every month I spend time analyzing practice exams and released exams, learning all the content that could show up as well as all the tricks present on each test designed to get students to fail. This turned into designing my own SAT prep curriculum, which then led to creating a summer class and club during my time as a teacher, and adapting SAT materials at Mathnasium and training other instructors on how to tutor for the SAT.
I also further developed my skill for teaching students with learning disabilities. My first role in a classroom for students with language-based learning disabilities, and one of the first students I ever tutored had Autism (tutored for 4 years). This set the stage well for my education career, as I was adapting/scaffolding curriculum to be more accessible for all types of learners in all my other teaching/tutoring roles, and I was especially sensitive to the role handwriting can play in success or failure with math.
I look forward to being as helpful as possible for you or your student as a tutor!" less...
