"I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, which has provided me with a strong academic foundation in both chemistry and biology. My coursework included general and organic chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, physiology, and cell biology, all of which were supported by extensive laboratory training. In addition to my science background, I grew up speaking Spanish as a Spanish American, and later pursued further study of the language at the college level. This combination of personal and academic experience has allowed me to tutor introductory Spanish with confidence, particularly at the Spanish 1 and 2 levels for college students.
My teaching and tutoring experience spans several years across different contexts. I have worked as a Spanish tutor for college-level introductory courses, where I helped students strengthen their vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills in ways that connected cultural context with classroom learning. I have also tutored high school and college students in biology and chemistry through Grade Potential, both in person and online, and volunteered as a tutor in organic chemistry and biochemistry. In addition, I served as a teaching assistant for the Intro to Cells course at my college, leading directed study tables, tutoring sessions, and repeat lectures to support student understanding.
Beyond academics, I gained valuable leadership and communication skills through my work as a Diversity Assistant at the Center for Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity, where I organized programs that supported minority education initiatives and inclusion on campus. These experiences have shaped my tutoring approach: patient, encouraging, and adaptable to each student’s needs. I strive to create a welcoming environment that helps students build both mastery of content and confidence in their own abilities, whether they are tackling Spanish for the first time or deepening their understanding of complex scientific concepts." less...
