Mr. Charles Thomas G.

Bachelor in Biology (Molecular) · specializes in Science, Math, GRE · 41-50 years old male

"I have been a teacher of some sort all of my adult life. I naturally learn new subjects by imagining how I might teach the material better than it was taught to me. I find it invigorating to help my students grasp a concept or subject they thought was too difficult or boring. Overall, I love learning and enjoy helping others re-discover their own love for learning."

Education and Qualifications

school: Johns Hopkins University

I graduated with honors from Johns Hopkins University in 1993.

I began tutoring in college for underprivileged Baltimore kids. I married my college sweetheart and for a sabbatical we decided to spend our first year of marriage exploring Alaska where I taught and tutored at a small private school in Wasilla, Alaska, where my wife was also the 7th grade English teacher. After our year of living adventurously in Alaska we moved back to Maryland where I took jobs at two private schools in northern Metro Washington, D. C., as primary school teacher and a high school chemistry and computer science teacher. The following year I was offered a full-time position at both schools and chose to teach 6th and 7th grade. I eventually became the Head Teacher of that school.

When I moved to St. Louis for graduate school in 2007, I left a 10-year career as the director of training for an academic software group that specializes in tools for research in the fields of Ancient Near Eastern and Biblical Studies. Their software is widely acclaimed in international journals to be the premier software for research and exegesis of the ancient Greek and Hebrew scriptures. In this position I developed the curriculum and recruited, trained and certified nine regional trainers enabling us to offer on-site training workshops in all English-speaking and most Spanish-speaking countries of the world. In this role I also developed and taught a daily 15-minute, ongoing training session for all company staff.

In addition to my career I have had numerous other interesting education experiences:

I was the Christian Education director for my church in Norfolk, VA for nearly seven years.

I have spent time studying culture and language in Mexico, Turkey, Chile, Peru, and Israel. I have traveled throughout much of Western Europe.

I was a guest instructor at La Escuela Presbiteriana de Teologia, in Trujillo, Peru, where I designed and taught a month-long course in computer-assisted exegesis (in Spanish).

For two months at the San Agustin Language Institute in Trujillo, Peru, I taught an adult advanced English conversation course.

For almost three years in college I was a Research Laboratory Technician in a Human Genetics lab at Johns Hopkins Medical School, Baltimore, where we worked on understanding cancer cell metastasis.

I took a one-year leave of absence from college between my freshman and sophomore years (1989-90) where I was a ski instructor at Whitefish Mountain Resort, Montana.
