"Welcome to Science & Stitches: An Artful Approach to Learning! My name is Emily DuBose and I will be your guide through the wonderful worlds of science and fiber art. Here, we will learn middle school to high school science as well as embroidery and macrame. I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and most of a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education (I moved and started a family before I was finished). I’ve been teaching in some capacity for 30 years so I consider myself a lifelong teacher.

I began my teaching career in bible class at church around the age of 12 or 13, which I continue to this day. As a young girl, I learned to sew and cross-stitch, but gave up crafting for a very long time. In college, I did some tutoring in high school biology and worked at a preschool before deciding to embark on a professional career as a teacher. After college, I worked in customer service so I gained lots of experience in troubleshooting problems.

My professional teaching career began 2010 in what’s called University Model Schooling at a small nationally certified private school where I taught biology for 2 years. After having my second child, I started crafting again. Around 2022, I discovered I loved embroidery and began doing it just for fun, then sold some pieces. The owner of a local art studio approached me about teaching embroidery and macrame classes and I agreed. I still teach monthly in-person classes. In 2023, I returned to the same private school by teaching preschool through kindergarten PE and Character Development. In 2024, biology was back on my schedule, and in 2025 physical science, biblical worldview and leadership were added.

I plan to begin work soon on my teaching certificate through NAUMS (National Association of University Model Schools)l. For me, learning and teaching are two sides of the same coin: teaching leads to learning and learning leads to teaching. There’s no need for learning to be boring so come learn with me and let’s find your passion!" less...
