"Hola! My name is Steven Diaz and I live in Florida. I am a math educator with over 25 years of teaching experience. I have taught and tutored mathematics from 4th grade to college level. I am currently an adjunct mathematics instructor at a bilingual university in Orlando, FL. I am also a part-time high school mathematics teacher at an all girls high school in Orlando, FL. In addition, I tutor remotely for several nationwide tutoring companies to help K-12 and college students understand mathematics.

I think everyone can learn and do mathematics. This is possible when students and tutees understand the basic idea behind a math topic. For such reason, my teaching and tutoring practices focus on "teaching for understanding." I always strive explaining mathematical ideas in layman terms (simple words), using visual aids or interactive learning tools, and making connections with real-life situations.

I also coach my students to develop a growth mindset, this inner belief that we can do anything with hard work and perseverance. I help them gain awareness that making mistakes is part of the learning process. I emphasize that the focus of learning is to make progress understanding something that students/tutees did not know or barely knew about it beforehand. I guide my students/tutees to focus on how much progress they have made understanding and applying mathematics. That's the real success! That's how you move forward in gaining confidence learning and doing mathematics! When students/tutees develop a growth mindset, they are capable of overcoming any challenges in their lives.
