"I am a graduate of the University of Mary Washington who majored in Spanish. I have worked as a translator for FEMA, as a teacher in a Spanish preschool and as an ESL instructor. I have also spent a lot of time working with kids as a camp counselor and I know how to make Spanish make sense to a wide variety of learning styles.

As a Spanish major, I was a key member of the Spanish club and helped tutor struggling athletes in Spanish and other general education subjects such as English and Creative writing. I was also a member of the Scholars house and Foreign Language house where I regularly used and tutored in Spanish, French and Italian. In addition to my Spanish studies, I took extensive English and Creative writing courses and spent much of my free time writing.

As a FEMA translator, I translated letters from Puerto Rico in which victims of Hurricanes reported what they lost during the Hurricane and other issues. In this position, I was tasked with reading letters that were often written in a difficult to read and understand version of Spanish. Often times, a great deal of regional understanding of the language was required to decipher what people had written and it was necessary to have a great deal of phonemic awareness.
