I have studied español as a second language for more than 15 years. I am a native Houstonian, Texan who fell in love with Spanish in Buenos Aires, Argentina during a 3-week study abroad program. I received my bachelor's in Hispanic Studies from The University of Tennessee in 2010. I have experience tutoring students of all ages in all levels of Spanish: starting from scratch with zero experience, dusting off rusty conversation skills before a trip abroad, Spanish for the workplace, patiently re-explaining classroom concepts, preparing for the IB exam or bilingual STAAR test, and in some cases making sure students know enough to pass. Whether you are starting your baby off on the bilingual path, struggling with a college, high school, or middle school course, seeking to learn Spanish for fun, or need to get a basic grip on grammar and job specific vocabulary, I will be there help you along the way.
I began tutoring as an undergraduate and helped over 20 students protect their GPA from the dreaded language requirement. Thanks to weekly sessions, they were able to pass Spanish courses they had previously failed. I was also awarded Best All-Around Female Tutor on my campus based on staff and student input. I provide alternate explanations and clarification of classroom instruction, reinforcing audio, written, and oral communication skills, and create study guides and practice exams to ensure student comprehension of difficult material. I assign short post tutoring session exercises that are designed to test student’s ability to reproduce language independently to ensure they understand the topics covered.
I also have a knack for turning good papers and essays into polished pieces of work. Many people know exactly what they want to say, but don't quite have the way with words to accurately and eloquently convey their thoughts, which is where I come in.
