"Dear Potential Student,
I'm so excited you found me! As I see it, there is nothing more exciting than sharing knowledge with others and helping build relevant connections between various subjects. The job of a teacher is not to be taken lightly. It is a humbling, awe-inspiring experience to work in the one profession that creates all other professions.
When I work with someone, I like to begin by reviewing the big ideas behind what I'm about to teach, so that overarching concepts are understood. This way, elaborating on specific concepts and ideas becomes easy and even logical, once the student is oriented to the entirety of a topic. Initially breaking topics down into larger ideas simplifies the learning process, and simultaneously helps to clarify the teaching process. As Albert Einstein best said, "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." Many things in life (technology, for instance) are already so complex that they require simplicity in order to propel the learner forward.
I have been running my own consulting and tutoring business since 2008. Aside from education, I specialize in both art and technology: videography, photography, computers, software, and web design. I have a MFA in Visual Art, and my BA is Visual Studies with a focus in Education. Helping others learn is my passion.
Diverse educational, biographic, geographic, ethnic backgrounds provide for a fertile learning experience. I place an emphasis on the process of mentoring so that each student will be able to explore his/her own interests and abilities. I am not satisfied unless I'm not only helping students to develop technical skills, but certain aptitudes -- such as discipline, autonomy, inventiveness, self-reliance, and self-efficacy.
I am happy to answer any questions you may have! Please contact me today so we can begin working on solutions together.
Warmly,
Jennifer" less...
